Yvonne Mc Guinness is an artist based in Dublin, Ireland,
Mc Guinness’ practice begins with place. Through film, collaborative research and the creation of shared civic spaces, she develops long-term projects that explore the relationships between people, landscape, architecture and ecology.
Working through sustained engagement to create frameworks for participation and collective authorship that bring together communities, local knowledge and the environments they inhabit. These processes often evolve over time, moving between film, performance and spatial practice, and extending into the development of cultural spaces and infrastructures that continue to support collective life beyond the duration of a single work.
Film is central to Mc Guinness’ practice, not as documentation but as a poetic and spatial form in which the social life of a project can continue to unfold. An ecological understanding of interdependence underpins the work, shaping how she approaches the entanglement of social, cultural and environmental systems. Across Mc Guinness’ practice, she is interested in how art can activate and create conditions for belonging, care and shared responsibility, and how it might contribute to more attentive and resilient ways of inhabiting place together.
